Ahhhchoo!

Sunday, September 30, 2012

There has been a whole lotta sneezing going on in our house this week. Both little girls have been sick with a cold.

Ricky has been juicing large glasses of sweet carrot and beet juice for us in the mornings.

Bright orange and foamy on top.

I have been chugging it down quickly. So far just a couple sips from the girls and they run away refusing any more.

Last night the girls and I went for a walk, just as dusk was settling in.

There is a tiny farm close to us, a small reminder of what our neighborhood used to be.

There is a brown horse named Bonnie and a pack of goats that share a pasture.

We took three carrots with us. We gave two carrots to Bonnie and made the goats share the last one.

As we walked home the moon rose in the sky. Full and round, a mellow yellow shining down on us.

The cool air was just what the girls needed to end the day. They slept soundly all night.

Farewell September, it's been a wonderful month. Beautiful sunny days, crisp mornings and nights, a perfect start to fall.

cheese and crackers

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

As of late I have been inspired by images of crackers.

Square cheesy crackers, and thin wheat ones.

The girls eat there share of these crunchy treats but until today I have not made them myself.

Then I stumbled across this blog and knew I must!

I followed her recipe and directions and just used a few different cheeses, I used milk instead of half and half  I used sharp cheddar, gruyere, parmesan and gouda.

These crackers literally take like 5 minutes to put together and 15 to bake.

They are so easy.

They are so good.

It could be dangerous to leave oneself unattended with these crackers.

LARDO

Monday, September 24, 2012

After a cool Friday that whispered of fall, Saturday arrived full of golden sunshine.

I was hungry and craving something tasty.

We headed to Lardo to sit at their picnic tables and drink in the suns rays as we filled our bellies.

I had the chicken sandwich, loaded with crunchy dill pickles, creamy dressing and crispy fried chicken.

The fries are solid. Not traditional but crispy, and cheesy with a smattering of herbs.

The girls broke into an impromptu dance party

On a monday

A sweet baby.

A salad of greens, toasted pine nuts, soft boiled eggs, capers and fresh tomatoes.

A taste of blackberry cordial, fizzy with champagne.

Not pictured:

1.)  my sweet girls having fun with their cousin

2.) good conversation with my sister

I hope your week is off to an equally great start, happy Monday!

White Rabbit Bakery

Friday, September 21, 2012

It rained in the night.

This morning when I left there was a fine silvery mist falling. I ran back to the house for a jacket, the first time I have worn one since summer started.

Fall offically arrives on our calendar tomorrow and the weather is changing accordingly.

Months ago my husband told me of a little bakery that he would pass on his way to work. He told me to stop in when I was in the area because he new I would really dig it.

And dig it I do.

The White Rabbit Bakery  is a little gem in the tiny town of Aurora.

I love a good bakery and this one delivers.

They offer sweet, savory and gluten free options.

When I say gluten free I mean really good glutten free.

The glutten free baked doughnut is high on my list of favorites.

In addition to the array of tasty baked goods they make really good sandwiches for lunch.

The atmosphere is cozy and beckons you to linger with a cup of coffee.

The owner Emily is super cool, on top of running her bakery she is the mom of two little boys!

Because its Friday and on Fridays we like to celebrate the beginning of the weekend, I stopped this morning to grab a couple of our favorite treats.

One soy latte.

Two baked doughnuts glazed with maple frosting.

Two cinnamon rolls iced in creamy frosting.

Some to keep some to share.

I hope you have a lovely weekend!

DRIVING

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

The mornings are cool and even bit chilly now.

When I go out I have been cranking the car heater for a while until my body is taken over by the combined warmth of  coffee and air around me.

The sky starts out grey and  little wisps of fog cover the low valley areas. As the sun emerges it begins to cast its warm rays and the hues begin to change from grey to pink.

A promise of another beautiful late summer day.
