Soft rain

The girls are napping early after a night of merriment and sugar highs. They loved knocking on doors and shouting trick or treat and I love the fact that we can do just that-how funny it is to walk up to people's doors you don't know and ask for treats!?
This morning I was outside cutting back fallen grasses and tired plants for the winter. The rain has been falling all day-soft tiny drops. The yard is filled with contrasting colors and textures of decaying plants. The leaves are falling fast from the bushes revealing in there place bright little berries- emerging as if by magic from naked branches.
I love quite days like this.
For lunch I made biscuits from here - this is a good recipe for biscuits, the best I have tried so far.
I ate warm biscuits with shaved ham, a crisp salad of kale, pomegranate, and pine nuts. I love super simple salads- few ingredients that shine and contrast. This salad is so easy and each bite packs a squirt of juice from the tiny pomegranate seeds.
And for dessert one more biscuit smeared with this summer's apple butter.
