We woke on Friday morning to blue sky and sunshine.
The girls and I worked in the yard, cutting back plants for the winter. This is one of my favorite fall rituals. I love the feeling of cutting and pruning; letting the plants know their hard work is done and they can rest until spring.
The rain came later on, while the girls were napping.
It was the kind of afternoon that begged to be spent sipping coffee and eating pie. With the rain falling around us we headed to Lauretta Jean's Pie Shop- they just opened a new location on our side of town.
We pulled on our boots and sweaters, and splashed in puddles as we made our way to an enjoy and afternoon treat.
We chose coconut cream pie. The pie had a perfect flaky crust, baked until all the little ridges were golden brown. There was a thick layer of creamy coconut pudding followed by fluffy whipped cream and topped with tiny flakes of toasted coconut.
Next time I intend to try their chocolate cream pie.
